Today was fabulous; one of the best days of the year – Melbourne Cup Day, the ultimate excuse to dress up and wear a hat, two of my favourite pastimes. For those of you not familiar with Aussie Spring racing, it goes a little like this – Derby Day is traditionally black & white outfits, Melbourne Cup is for way-out colour/print, etc. and Oaks (or Ladies) Day is for ultra-feminine florals & pastels. So punchy colour it was today!
Special mention must go to Dita Von Teese (one of my inspirations) who graced the Cup in person today, looking impeccably groomed and divine in orchids; just exquisite.
Technically, the yellow dress I wore is not ‘race wear’ in the pure sense. If competing in a Fashions on the Field event I would have chosen a much more demure outfit, but I wasn’t, and I really wanted to rock that lace dress! It was a fun day, we stopped work to watch the race & have some lunch. Can’t rely on those horses though, I think mine still hasn’t made it to the finish line!
